A Hair Stylist's Guide for Sun City Georgetown Newcomers
Quick answer
If you've just moved to Sun City, gather your hair history first, then book a cut or another small service with a Georgetown stylist. Ask what the cut will need at home, and mention any new habits, such as swimming.

Sun City Georgetown, which its community association calls Sun City Texas, has more than 17,000 residents on more than 7,000 acres at the western edge of Georgetown. A move brings a long list of new contacts, and a hair stylist is one of the more personal ones to replace.
Karen Shardlow's page for clients near Sun City covers where she works and what she offers. This guide covers something else: what you can do and ask to make the switch easier.
What should you gather before you see someone new?
A new stylist can't see what was done to your hair before. If you can still reach your old salon, ask for your notes. If you can't, write down what you remember.
- The color you use, and how often you have it done
- The date of your last color or chemical service
- Any box color, even if it was years ago
- Clipper numbers or lengths, if you have a short cut
- Clear photos of your hair at its best, from the front, side and back
What should you ask a new stylist?
The guide to finding a good hair stylist in Georgetown covers where to look. Once you've picked someone, these questions tell you what you'll be signing up for.
| Ask this | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| What would you do with my hair, and why? | You'll hear how they think, not only what they plan |
| How much styling will this need at home? | Your routine may look different after a move |
| How often will I need to come back? | It sets your real cost over a year |
| What will this cost with my length and thickness? | Starting prices often vary with length and thickness, as Posh Salon notes on its menu |
| What happens if I need to cancel? | Rules differ from salon to salon |
Will Sun City life change your hair routine?
It might, so mention what you plan to do.
If you plan to swim, the community's fitness centers have eight swimming pools. The American Academy of Dermatology says chlorine dissolves the fats that coat and protect hair. Its article suggests a swim cap, or oil or a leave-in conditioner before you get in. Rinse right after you swim. The same article says hair dyed blond is more open to damage from UV and chlorine, which matters if you color your hair blond and plan to swim often.
If you'll be golfing or walking the trails, say so too. A stylist can consider how a short shape behaves under a hat, or how a cut holds up to sweat and frequent washing.
How should you book your first visit?
Start with something small, so you can see how you get along. A women's cut with Karen is a good test. Starting prices are $76 for short hair, $82 for medium and $87 for long, and the final price can vary with your hair. Cuts run about an hour, starting with a real consultation.
To book, use the booking button on this site or call to book with Karen. The new client page has the full steps. Ask about the cancellation policy when you book, since rules differ from salon to salon.
Where else can you get a recommendation?
Ask the neighbors. Sun City has more than 50 chartered clubs and interest groups, which gives you plenty of chances to meet someone whose hair you like and ask who cuts it.
Thinking about it? See Karen's prices, read the new client guide, or browse all her services. Karen's women's cuts start at $76 at Breeze Salon + Spa in Georgetown as of November 2026, and the Emily Post Institute suggests a 15% to 20% tip at a hair salon.
Frequently asked questions
What should I bring to a first visit with a new stylist?
Bring two or three photos of hair you like, one you don't, and a rough history of what's on your hair, including box color.
Does swimming in a pool affect my hair?
It can. The American Academy of Dermatology says chlorine can strip the protective fats from hair, so rinse it right after you swim.
Should I book a big color change at my first visit?
It's usually better to start small. A haircut shows you how a stylist listens before you commit to more.
